Pig Import Ban into Russia

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has been informed by the European Commission that the Russian Federation has banned the import of pigs, pork and reproductive material certified from the EU after the 26th of January 2014.  The ban follows the discovery of cases of African swine flu in Lithuania.

The latest data on Ireland’s bilateral trade in goods shows continued strengthening of our trade surplus with Russia. In January-September 2013, Irish exports to Russia amounted to EUR485 million, up on EUR459 million year on year. Over the same period, Irish imports from Russia in goods sectors rose to EUR112 million – an increase of 36.6% year on year. As the result, Ireland’s trade surplus (goods sectors only) reached EUR373 million in the first nine months of 2013, virtually flat on EUR377 million trade surplus recorded in the same period of 2012.

Sugar from the Western Balkans into the EU

Imports of sugar from the Western Balkans into the European Union

The European Commission advised importers in June 2002 of the importance of the documentary evidence of origin in the context of securing preferential duty for sugar imported from the Western Balkans. The conditions for a proper functioning of preferential arrangements for sugar of tariff headings CN 1701 and CN 1702 imported from the Western Balkans into the European Union have been restored. The relevant notice to importers has been withdrawn.

Russian Space Giant Roscosmos Signs Plans To Work With National Space Centre

Formal plans to work together on joint projects were signed by Russian Federal Space Agency, Roscosmos and National Space Centre Ltd (Ireland) at the Roscosmos headquarters in Moscow on 21 June, 2012, during the Enterprise Ireland Trade Mission led by Minister of State for Trade and Development, Mr Joe Costello, TD. The Trade Mission included over 20 Enterprise Ireland client company participants, and was aimed at building on impressive 2011 Russia trade figures which saw 37% growth in goods export to the closest of the BRICS countries. This was reinforced by over 50% growth in exports by Enterprise Ireland client companies in 2011. Read more…
