Ireland-Russia Agri Overview by IRBA Chairman Dr. Constantin Gurdgiev:

The Russian economy’s continued growth since the 2008-2009 crisis has been underpinned by rapid expansion in consumer spending and a fragile, but growing long-term capital investment programme aimed at modernising and diversifying economic acidity. Coupled with a prolonged recession and stagnation in the Euro area, these developments have made the Russian market an increasingly important and attractive trade and investment partner for Ireland. Russian goods imports from Ireland have increased from €245 million in 2009 to €620 million in 2011 and are set to rise by 6-8% in 2012. With Russia’s GDP growth expected to average roughly 3.8-4.0% up to 2017, primarily fuelled by a strong recovery in consumer consumption and declining inflation, Russian markets offer tremendous potential for Irish exports. We expect 2013-2017 goods exports to Russia from Ireland to rise to well over €1 billion annually with overall, longer-term potential for trade volumes close to €3-€4 billion annually. Read more…

Improved Visa System and Direct Flights Would Open up More Business

August 30, 2012 1 comment

Improved visa system and direct flights to Moscow would open up more business opportunities, stated Mr Maxim Peshkov – the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Ireland, at the IEA’s Ireland Russia Business Association (IRBA) lunch on 29th August 2012.

At the Ireland Russia Business Association lunch the Ambassador from the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Ireland stated:

  • There were many opportunities for the expansion of bi-lateral trade between Ireland and Russia and that the establishment of the Joint Economic Commission in November  last year  was a very positive step along the way.
  • The Irish government was in a strong position to promote further trade with Russia through the World Customs Organisation, where Josephine Feehily – The Revenue  Commissioners Chairman – was also the Chairman of the WCO.
  • Equally there was a strong opportunity for the Irish Government to build further trade expansion with Russia during the Irish Presidency of the EU next year.

Latest Euromoney Country Risk Survey results

August 6, 2012 Comments off

Dr. Constantin Gurdgiev

Recent Country Risk survey by Euromoney shows some interesting trends relating to the Russian economy. Here are the headlines:
“The five economies of the Brics have seen an aggregate ECR score loss of 6.4 points this year, lowering the average score by 3.1 points to 56.8. South Africa (-2 points), Brazil (-1.9) and India (-1.6) have endured the worst declines in sentiment, resulting from concerns about export market conditions, amid waning demand for commodities and increased domestic security risks. However, all five have seen large declines in their economic assessment scores, as contributors have reassessed their expectations for global growth and have acknowledged the slowdown in China’s breakneck pace of expansion.”  Read more…
